Modifying Gen Rolex second hand

I have recently come into possession of a gen milgauss handset. The hour and minute hand are slightly damaged but the second hand is in pristine condition. I was curious to get your guys opinion on what would be the best plan of action to fit the gen second hand to a 2836 movement.

I'm thinking I could get a set of bergeon smoothing broaches and slightly widen the hole in the second hand to accept the 2836 second pinion. I'm also guessing you could possibly reduce the diameter of the second pinion to accept an unmodified second hand but I think that would require a watchmakers lathe unless there's another way of reducing the diameter without a lathe.

I'm not opposed to modifying the second hand, I did manage to get the handset at a pretty decent price. I think it may be better course of action to modify the second pinion (if possible) and keep the gen second hand unmodified.

I would try to reduce the diameter of the second wheel pinion. Figure out a way to anchor it, then just take a thin strip of 2000 or 3000 grit sandpaper and drag it around the pinion like a shoeshine cloth. Maybe put a piece of thin gauge wire insulation around the thicker lower part of the pinion, and embed it all in rodico, or use a staking plate to surround the pinion, leaving the tip exposed. I've used that method to shorten a pinion before.

Thanks for the tip KJ2020 . I think I can model up a special jig in Fusion and 3D print it to hold the pinion and wheel so it will be rock solid when sanding. I'm not exactly sure what the diameter of a a gen 3131 second pinion is. I don't think ill be able to measure the inner diameter of the second hand hole with my calipers. I guess i would keep sanding until it fits or should i try to copy the exact diameter of a gen pinion.

If you have a gen pinion that would be ideal. I think the 3131 is the same as the 3130, which is different from the 3135. I did a quick search for it online but those numbers are not easy to find. If you find please post it I keep a text file with hands measurements.

I'm sure you know, but the ETA is 25, the 3135 is 22, and older ones like 1570/5 are 20.

So I think you would be safe going down to 22, checking along the way and probably will need a little more off than that.

So i blackened the end of a very fine sewing needle and very carefully stuck it in the hole of the second hand to see if i could get a little bit of the blackening to come off. Under magnification a little bit of the blackening did indeed come off. Very very very carefully i took a measurement at that mark and i came up with .2mm.

Sorry to crash this thread, I just put a VR3135 in my bp pro hunter that had an A3131 till
It quit last night. My hands fit but I tried 3135 hands and they’re too “short” how does a gen Milgauss accomplish this? A different pinion to get past the “gauss” plate? Because my understanding is the gen Milgauss hands don’t fit either.

I doubt the Pro Hunter "3131" was anything but an SA3135 with fake engraving so that would explain the rep "3131' hand fitting the VR3135. Do the Milgauss rep hands have longer hole collars on them?

Yes I think you’re right. The hands have longer collars. I’m new with this and bent the minute hand.

Cleaned off the markers and hands, installed a gen green crystal, slipped popping it back in. Couldn’t believe it... of course the one setup that NO hands will fit it seems... I wish I could abort mission but that gen crystal on dlc is something else

Oh yeah, looks quite nice bro. Great work! You shouldn't need that DLC Noob Sub anymore now, haha!
