Does BP 16610 have the same bezel construction as gen?

As the title says.

I know JF does but I’d prefer not to have a SH3135 movement as I’m better used to working on ETAs. I’m planning on a build for a 5 digit sub but def want a gen-like bezel assembly (tension ring, click spring..etc). I can source a BP case pretty cheap so If BP has the correct assembly, that would be perfect.

I’m pretty sure I remember BP seadwellers having the same bezel assembly so I don’t see why subs wouldn’t.

Can someone confirm please?

Thank!

The recent BP 5 digit Sub releases that I wrote about HERE DO NOT have gen-like bezel construction, they are the octagonal wire setup. I can post back later what size insert they use if you need that, I replaced one of mine.
Not with a gen but I kept the old one so I can measure it.

That’s a shame. Mary told me that the bezel construction was the same.. how are they doing the wire setup with a unidirectional bezel? I asked her to get me some pics today. I’m hoping for the best bc I plan on using the case for a 16800 build but if the bezel is set up that way, along with the ETA datewindow you mentioned in that thread, that’s not gonna work. Ugh.

Do you have any pics of the bezel set up?

May have to switch to a startime case if I can’t find a decent case for that build.

Here's pics of a BP 16710 I just did last night. These things are a royal PITA to get apart. I had to hammer a jeweler's screwdriver in the gap to get access to the wire, it is really close tolerance. This is the same setup as the 16610, except the click spring on the subs has a sloped top edge to prevent clockwise rotation. Teeth are on the bezel bottom.

The ETA date window is only on the ETA and 2813 models. The 3135's have gen-spec dials, date windows and cyclops position.

Also the crystals on these are 30.5mm, not 29.5 like gen or Clark's and the inserts are 30.6 / 37.4. I have two gen aluminum inserts 30.6 / 37.6 so a gen insert is not going to fit.

You’re crushing my dreams of a 16800 build man!!

I was hoping to be able to do it with a 2836. Mainly because I know how to fix those but i guess I’ll have to look at the JF option and hope that fits a Vietnam dial and a DWO on the SH3135, which I’m terrified of.
I’m told those clone movements have come a long way since the days of the decorated 2836 so I’m gonna hope for the best.

Does JMB still drill lug holes? Lol that’s the scariest part for this build I think. I’d kick myself if i buy a $500 rep + a $250 dial + a gen autowinding bridge (god knows how much but I’m told it’s a must for these movements) and fuck up the lug holes.

That is not gonna be a cheap build.... :(

You could put a 2824 in the JF case. I've never done it, but the stem heights are very close and I've heard of people doing it. JF case much closer to gen in all respects and you get a 3135 to learn on.

True. I supposed I could also sell the movement...

SH3135 should be pretty easy to flip

Do you know if the JF16610 Dial is the same size as 26.5mm? I’m seeing different numbers for gen dials and wondering which one is correct. I’ve seen anything from 26mm-30mm.

Sorry bro, I never had a JF 16610 but pretty much every 5 digit gen Sub / GMT dial should be about 27 - 27.3mm or very close.

I am just starting a 16610 Tiffany dial build with a ST case and a VR3135 I rebuilt with a ton of Gen parts. On the movement, I am still new and leaning but have built and serviced 4 of them and they are great! The VR is the best yet. The care and attention to detail on the VR is beautiful and if you decide to go that route I think you will be thrilled. It is, as stated earlier, a perfect and inexpensive learning experience on the 3135. All but 10 or so parts are compatible and provides a great proving ground for your skills.

The links provided on the case slimming is awesome. That with this link (https://100percentpassion.net/2016/03/06/manons-art-der-aufbereitung-einer-rolex-submariner/) that was posted last week should get me where I need to be. Good luck with your build!

Hrmm so... any ideas on how I can get the 26.5mm dial to sit centered? I think it would be ok with the SH3135 since there isn’t a movement ring....?

Already talked to JMB to get the lug holes drilled but damn if that dial spacing isn’t stressing me out...

Yea. I’ve seen that one before. Amazing work. I can’t read German but at least I can get the sandpaper grit numbers from that site. Not really sure why he plugged the lug holes though. I mean, the worst that can happen is getting some crap in it. Easily removable with some rodco.

I’ll just hope and pray that my lovely Vietnam dial fits. The only thing that sucks is the dial is a red sub which is not period correct but I can live with that for now. It’s such a pretty dial that I got a great deal on.

If everything works out, I’ll convert the 1680 I have now to a 5513 with a helenaru dial. Shave off the date groove on the keyless and it would be a solid 5513. No dial shaving needed. :)

Helenaru 5513s are not bad either. Especially for the price.

Nice! I love the 5513 it is on the list for sure! If you use google chrome it will translate the german for you.

I just bought off of ebay a beat up gen dial on the cheap and may make this a weathered Tiffany. I plan on doing the pad printing Myself on the gen dial like tiffany did so that will make this very interesting.
