Hey everyone.
Not sure if anyone is interested but I wanted to make a positive contribution here and post about my endeavour and the results. Here it is. So I purchased from RWI a used beautiful BK modded Submariner V7 in the M2M section about 2 months ago. The watch was phenomenal because it also had the Prof crystal and black hole upgrade as well. Basically as it sat the watch was a real stunner and was everything you could want. The only real issue holding it back was the ceramic bezel font color. As most know this version had a darker grey color in the bezel numerals. I looked into getting it platinum plated from SB or possibly just buying a GEN bezel. I was indeed going to go that route so I figured id try the Molotow mod just for educational/experimental purposes in the meantime. The only issue with this was longevity. I had heard some say it lasted, others said it needed touch ups on occasion. Well I wasnt interested in that and I am sort of a perfectionist so I needed to devise a solution. I come from a history of autobody and paint work in my sparetime. If you know anything about this field there are so many variables and techniques chasing perfection your head could explode. There is no room for mistakes perfection is everything in auto body paint.
So with my skills in that field and with a steady hand, patience and understanding of how paint application works I figured I could knock this out. My solution was a subtle clear coat inside the bezel numerals.
I went to work with an extreme amount of prep, cleaning supplies, hairdryers, a mini paint booth, platinum paint, AAA auto clearcoat. I used the methods I would painting a body panel on a car and this is the final results. Its overkill but I can safely say it came out great. I have worn it straight for two weeks and did some rigorous testing and this platinum application isnt going anywhere! The font is smooth, there are no flaws or globs inside the numbers like I have seen in other paint modded watches. It looks very gen maybe even better lol : )
Anyway check it out! Here is the watch before and after with a custom leather giant 26mm leather strap adapted to fit the 20mm Submariner. Maybe one day I can offer this mod. Im new to this world and having fun and learning. Here it is.
