Swapping/Changing a Movement

So after a quick search I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

My question is...
If I can find out what movement my rep has, can I then find a replacement - Can this replacement be either Asian or ETA?
(E.g. Asian 2824 replaced with ETA 2824)

Will the hands fit the replacement movement (I believe from another post that the answer is yes for 28xx movements).

How easy/difficult is it to replace, that is, remove movement, remove hands and dial, put hands and dial on new movement and replace.

I do have a basic watch tool kit (which includes a hand removal tool).

Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.
TIA

If it's just an A2824 to ETA2824 swap then I would say that it's an easy swap and yes the hands will fit.
But "easy" doesn't mean that you don't need practice and knowledge.
The best, IMHO, is to get some cheap watches and train with the help of all the Tito's you can find here.

DWO might cause a problem for you , if you have one

Thanks I thought that may be the case.

Hence my question...I don't want to start pulling things apart and then run into problems.

I'm assuming, based on the tool I have, that hands are "pressure" fitted!?
Not sure how the dial is fitted though!?

How about being able to swap in a Asian ETA2824 instead?

Again from another post I read, hands from all 28xx movements fit each other.

There are plenty of tutorials here or on the web so you should read some of them to learn the basics
But ...

HANDS :
Yes ... they are "pressure" fitted (not to much pressure).
To remove them you can use a remover tool or lhand evers ... or just curved tweezers (that's my prefered method).
And you'd better protect the dial with a plastic sheet or a post-it paper before removing the hands.

DIAL :
The dial has 2 "feets" plugged in holes on the movement plate or ring (depending on which movement you use)
And it is secured with screws or levers (still depending on the movement)

Thanks for your reply - that's really useful info.

P.S. I had tried searching first (before posting). I'm also finding it a bit difficult to navigate around the site.

In my parent's basement
An asian ETA 2824 is an oxymoron. ETA means swiss. So I guess an Asian Swiss 2824? She must be hot.....

Anyways - will be a direct and easy swap, esp with no DWO like Dave said. Stem should fit right now, length is already cut, etc. Use the same dial spacer on the old movement also.

One thing I need to look for is with regards to the dial fixing points - specifically if the dial pin positions are the same on the 2836 and 2824.
I'll need to search around for some pics.
