Hello dear members of the forum,
Today I would like to show you my 16710 GMT Master II build compared to a used 16700 GMT Master. The GMT Master II build is based on the Vietnam Case, the Gen GMT Master is used, certainly 30 years old and has been polished. Possibly more than once as well. Keep in mind that the 16700 GMT Master has been polished so it's shape might not be perfect. But hey, it's Gen. And I just saw it in the pics, my build also needs to be cleaned once again.
Starting with a brief description of the watches and the photo equipment:
I did not open the watches, my build has a VR 3186 (actually a 3185 clone) installed, the Gen has a 3175 caliber. This makes the watches minimally different in height, I did not compare the thickness with my caliper. My build is 12.1 mm thick.
But now to the pictures:

Starting with a brief description of the watches and the photo equipment:
- The case of the GMT Master II build was reworked by TomRep at several points. The horns have been ground a bit thinner, the chamfers reduced, and the case has been Gen like grounded and polished. The bezel is Gen, as is the strap. The bezel is a so called NOS part (that's a change to the build story) while the 78790 strap was used and rebrushed along with the case.
- My friend's Gen GMT Master is from the 1990s and has certainly been polished at least once, probably more.
- Watches has been put in a small DIY lightbox, no studio flashes has been used. 2 battery powered spots have illuminated the lightbox.
- Pics have been taken with an iPhone
