For those that remember BigOffshoreDaddy 's roller coaster of a ride sale of a TC 16610LN, you'll probably remember that BOD wasn't able to give the full specs on the watch, and there were many claims that the watch was very overpriced. Despite what a lot of people think it's not always possible to determine what's genuine and what's not just by looking at what are very often shitty pics. Below is a breakdown of the parts that make up this watch. A conservative estimate of parts prices brings it to a total of just over $1800 - not including any costs associated with the modifications/building:

BODs TC:

TC bracelet & case set.
Rolex NOS tritium dial.
Rolex 295C crystal, non LEC/AR.
Rolex insert with tritium pearl.
Rolex 703 crown.
Asian 2824 clone.

Wasn't such a bad deal after all, even at the original asking price.

The buyer decided to turn it into a 16800, these are the current specs of the watch.

TC case, reshaped, refinished.
Rolex 16800 MKI matte dial
Rolex flat 4 insert with Tritium pearl
Rolex Tritium hands, modified to fit ETA
Rolex 295c crystal, non AC/LEC (BODs)
Rolex 703 crown (BODs)
Rolex 91350 bracelet, Rolex 593 end links.

The owner was going to send it to me for my expertise! After 5 min conversation, he realized I know nothing! Good thing he sent it to you..... Beautiful!

I still deeply regret parting with my gen gloss dial, tripdog frankened 16800 - the sub reference the rep factories forgot.

So much gen goodness here... stunning watch.

Beautiful work as always! I'm glad it found a good home and was updated beautifully by one of the masters. The way some conducted themselves in the original sales thread still bothers me even now.

Simple mathematics:

(despite the roller coaster of the original sale), it found a good home + suggestion by a master mod (@occb2) + gen items carefully selected (despite expense) + hands of a master builder =
one magnificent watch!

16800 is one of my favorites, so I pay close attention to the builds posted and this watch is of the best I've seen on RWI. Nice work Trip.

It's important to note that Tripdog slimmed the rehaut to spec, which is a detail that is not always present in a 16800 franken (or even superfrankens). The 16800s have a slimmer profile than the 16610. To make a shallower rehaut, a metal lathe is required, and this is not something everyone has access to nor is comfortable using.

Admittedly, it is a detail that one would not necessarily notice at first glance, but when you see the comparison, it's obvious - and something that "once seen, you can't unsee".

Especially concerning the 16800, which is one Rolex no rep factory has made, "the devil is in the details", and this example is just one more testament to Tripdog's fine attention to detail.

He is a MASTER!

As an example, these are photos from Bob's Watches site: on the TOP is a 1982 16800, on the BOTTOM is a 1994 16610:
