Hi there

my BP 5004 (i think purchased around 2010 or so?) stopped working and my watchmaker does not want to repair it. he said something about “gears totally screwed”.

So my plan is to get a new movement to get it back to life.

Can someone tell me which movement this is? so i can order one.

See pics:

Thanks!

No chance to replace the movement.
I would recommend to get a new ZF Big Pilot.
The movement used in there is really solid.

thank you for reply, tschako!

isn’t this movement built around some simple asian movement as a core?

my idea was to use parts from whatever that core movement is.

i know about the ZF ones but if possible, i would like to repair.

i guess i was able to identify the movement, seems to be a seagull st2551:
https://calibercorner.com/seagull-caliber-st25/

looks identical and was also used in a big pilot hommage watch by a brand called “parnis”. this watch seems to be just like the rep, just with different dial and datewheel and no IWC engraving on the clasp. here is a video of it and at the end, the movement can be seen:

also here a guy was selling on a german uforum, with some good pictures: https://uhrforum.de/threads/parnis-big-pilot-automatik-47mm-seagull-st2551.472644/

also, ingersoll used it on its bison watch:

the movement can be obtained for around $45 plus shipping on ebay:

Ahh yes, there were s as couple ones that were with a seagull movement.
Yeah, it’s a cheap option to get it working again.
Probably you need to modify the movement a bit, lose the Datewheel etc. and fix the power reserve somehow or copy parts over to your new movement.
If you can do it on your own or have someone doing it for cheap then nice but if not you could quickly run into paying half the price of a new ZF BP.
Let us know how it went…

hi tschako

thanks for your reply. i do however not understand what you mean regarding the power reserve. this watch does not have a functional power reserve and the st2551 does not have one, either.

the st2551 has central seconds and date. that’s it.

i guess the standard datewheel can be just replaced with the one from the rep, that’s it.
so i think i can keep datewheel function.

I suspect he is talking about the power reserve of the movement and not a functional power reserve on the dial.

Yeah, that’s what I was saying. I guess it is not a straight swap as you need to somehow fix a pinion to put the power reserve hand. Maybe it’s easier than thought maybe not.
Would be nice to see pictures once you have the dial off. Can you do that on your own ?

i found another video of this watch. i was able to purchase this watch here for $35 online:

https://youtu.be/Kkuunn6acyw

i want to see how much it uses the same parts as the rep. it seems to have the same movement. maybe also the same case. also maybe the strap is the same (just without the IWC imprint on the back).
