Is the IWC Big Pilot 5009-01 ZF still the most accurate Big Pilot Rep?

Hello Community!

I'm looking to pull the trigger on the IWC Big Pilot 5009-01 ZF but wanted to ask the community if there have been any other contenders for the most accurate Big Pilot rep?

I know that the 5009-01 ZF will need a strap change but I'm happy to do that, but I'm curious to look at alternative options. From my research, I don't think the LPP reps have an accurate blue dial.

Much Thanks.

with the ZF you get the very very good Liaoning Movement with 70h power reserve... besides a beautiful watch

Hello Vesania, i got myself in 2019 the "Big Pilot 5009 Le Petit Prince" from ZF and i'm more then happy with it.

I checked the communication i had with my TD before buying and he confirmed there was no better version. It was in Sept. 2019..hopefully this helps!

great choice, you will love it! and the strap looks nice too, it doesn't look that bad - or you mean that changing it with a gen one it will looks much nicer?

I see that you have the watch for quite a while. Is the movement reliable for many years?
thanks!

The only thing with the BP rep is the crown thread, it breaks quite easily and after 6 months you won't be able to screw it down. Quite a bummer.

is there an easy fix for this yet? I've seen several posts of people modifying the watch to remove the screw down and leave it as a simple push/pull type crown

I have a ZF 5009 coming in soon. Just green lit the QC from Jtime. I've read that it bests keeps time at 50% power. Anyone knows how many winds till 100%? Also crown guard replacments?

The ZF 5009 is still the nicest IWC rep around. I also never had a problem with the crown thread yet. Only the dials could be improved on some versions. Therefore I also put a gen dial in my Big Pilot. I have some dials waiting for new projects :)

Get the ZF 5009-12 with the 9 back in the dial and the triangle and dots are lower on dial and more like the 5002... The basic 5009 is so imbalanced on the dial IMO and thats why IWC changed it back to be a more refined dial that blends the 5002 and 5009. Also another bonus is the calf strap is true to the gen 500912 and 10 times better strap IMO than the fake croc rep strap you get on the 5009, so you dont have to replace the strap on the 500912 rep, its very nice calf.
