What Watch Movement to choose?

Hi, im a newbie here and would appreciate if someone can enlighten me on this. Im planning to buy a rolex submariner from a TD. However, upon searching from their site for a particular model of watch there are different kinds of code and number in their model number. (eg. SH3135, A2826 and etc). What does this mean and what is the best one to choose? Thanks.

I would definitely choose A2836 or A2824 since it's a good workhorse, and there are spare parts to find easily. 3135 and others are more gen spec, but for me it's too unreliable as a movement and hard to service/find parts.

I would also go for the workhorse movements when possible. :thumbup:

As said above.... unless you plan to install a genuine dial or hands, go with the common workhorse movement which can be swapped out or repaired easily if it fails.

The SH3135 movement allows you to set time similar to gen Rolex, the 2824/2836 movement do not. But then, how often do we set the time in front of staring gen Rolex owner?
My 2 cents - I owned several reps with the SH313X movement, and all except one have failed within the year. My bad luck or not, I believe these movements require service for rep longevity (oxymoron?). So if you choose this route, allot another $150-$200 to your budget for service.

If you want something good otb get the a2824, more reliable than the 3135 and much cheaper to replace. if you want to build a watch or get that "gen" feeling then 3135
