I'm looking to buy my first rep watch, which will be a rolex datejust in the $350 range. I'm just wondering how long do the reps in this price range usully last before malfunctioning? Thanks

1 day? 50 years? There is no answer to that question. As with anything, the better you take care of it the longer it will last. Alternatively you can get a dud that breaks in 3 months.

I'm not sure which movement to get yet, still trying to figure out which one is the best/most reliable. Do you have any recommendations on where to start?

That’s the mystery of the rep. I have one that has continued to work for over 25 years. I have others that have arrived broken and I have never been able to get them to work.

OK well, just like regular watches, reps can be repaired.

The 2813 is the cheapest movement, these can simply replaced for $15 from eBay.

The 3135 is difficult to repair and parts are not readily available, although this movement is a clone of the Rolex movement, so more gen-like. Ultimately the whole movement can be replaced for £200+ from eBay.

The 2824/2836 is a clone of the Swiss ETA movement, is reliable and is easier to repair and parts are available and ultimately can be replaced for about £50 from eBay, or you can swap in a gen Swiss ETA or Sellita movement.

I would recommend the 2824/2836, depends how close to gen you want to be.

Of course the next step is finding a rep-friendly watchmaker to service/repair your watches (should you need it).

I’ve had them dead at day 1. and some of them keep ticking after 3650+ days even w/o get serviced. (I’m speaking of reps that costed me 350+$)

For the most part they last a long time. Servicing them is a good idea although I have a genuine Rolex that never had issues with until it got service. Lol A rep 16613 I bought in 2007 never got service and I literally wore it almost every day for 10 years until the crown tube broke.
