Very nice rep, thank you for photos guys.

So what’s everyone’s opinion of the RG colour?

The plating looks quite different under different lightning. QC pics have darker tinge.

Please AP experts who know their RG colour tones weigh in. Lol

Attached gen pics for comparison, seems even the gen looks different under different light?

PS the ZF finishing and plating consistency seems quite good and better the JF I have see.

Mate that a highly edited computer generated/edited Gen pic. What do you aim to achieve by comparing your rep with that?

Hi Mate,

Exactly what I stated in my post lol, I want to know how close the rep RG colour tone is to gen. That’s a fair question to ask considering usually AP RG rep platings are usually off. And we are talking a whole lot of RG in this watch so the colour for me anyway is important.

I don’t happen to have a gen lying around in my watch box, unless a member here does.

Here are some more shops or some gen RG tones as I said I don’t know if it’s my imagination but there seems to be a different tone on some models unless it’s the lightening. Never seen a gen so I can’t say.

I own a few gen RG APs and I’ve addressed the color differences a few times. Please do a search. This has also been addressed by QueTip before on a few occasions.
I think it’s a question that has been asked a few times before and answered comprehensively as well. Please stop asking about this. The answers are already given a few times. Thanks mate.

Well I will recap the main facts for you here K. The takeaways to help save you time.

1. The only time you can actually see the rep vs gen RG color difference, is when both are brand new and side and side.
2. For the gen RG, the only standard color is a brand new watch. Each watch weathers and changes colors according to the environment it is worn in, influenced by moisture, sunlight, temperature, mineral in the air, frequency of wear etc. My friend's gen RG color Alinghi looks completely different from my gen 15711, for example.
3. There is no such thing as "the gen RG color" for a used gen AP RG. Don't bother comparing pics, especially rendered pics, its completely meaningless. Both gen and rep RG colors WILL change in their own environments over time.
4. Variations of color exist even among batches. My gen RG RB3, and 26470 for example, look rather different in color.

So don't be too hung up over the rep (or even gen RG colors). They may start off looking different side by side when brand new, but given time, both color tones will change. There is therefore NO basis to compare the two after say..6 months of use for both. Just relax and enjoy the rep for what it is. Even if the color is spot on, the weight will never be. There is always a host of tells accompanying each AP rep and this is no exception. Just enjoy the watch for what it is, and forget about what it is not. I see a lot of members comparing pics of the gen RG vs the rep. This is a complete waste of time if a meaningful conclusion is expected. Lighting, age, filter used can all alter the appearance of the watch dramatically. One guy who really delved deep into this color aspect is QueTip and he will be able to give his opinion, which may or may not be the same as mine.

Thank you Al that’s very generous of you. You saved my a lot of thread searching. I didn’t know that the gens also change colour like that, in hindsight it should be common sense but I just thought naively an AP wouldn’t be subject to it. But I guess metal is metal and the elements always find a way to work their magic lol

I guess the only thing to consider with the rep in question is the consistency of the plating which looks very good.

No worries mate. Members tend to give too much credit to gen RG, but scientifically, RG contains copper and copper develops a patina over time according to its exposure to its environment. RG does not tarnish, but it does change color over time. Both RG plating and gen RG contain pure gold and copper, with silver added to dilute the color of the copper. AP RG, like any other RG compound, is not immune to color changes as long as copper is involved. So imagine a rep RG plated watch and a gen RG after 6 months of daily wear.. say under the Australian sun. Both will 100% change color. So in order to meaningfully compare the colors, you need to compare both watches worn under the exact same conditions for the exact duration of time, to call one out as "wrong". Zoom out to the real world scenario, and you will see basically how this protects most of the rep RG owners from having their watches called out based on color alone. My friend's alinghi looks more coppery red than any rep RG which I have seen. And a lot "heavier" in tone than any of my RG watches. Yet that watch is a gen (yep I have tried it on myself).

So wear your watch worry free. I have stated many times that confidence and attitudes are keys to pulling off any watch. To put it in essence, a guy wearing a gen, and a guy wearing the rep with confidence, will appear to be the same to the casual non-specialist observer. Forget the color and focus on your own preference. I bet that you can carry off any watches you love in real life.

Last but not least, as with Jobe0074 and all Aussie members here, I charge a pound of kangaroo for every snippet of watch related advice given. Jobe currently owns me about 3-4 full grown roos. I do accept shipment via DHL and Fedex. Will PM you my address later thanks K. :legend:
