APROO DIVER WHITE CERAMIC

Greetings everyone at RWI! It's been about 10,000 years since I've posted on this forum, but that's only because I haven't had a craving for something new yet, so here we are. I've been looking to acquire a white ceramic diver and I understand that there were issues with the ceramic that they were using. It almost appeared that a few of the models had a translucent, milky appearance. Now, if my memory serves me correctly, they eventually released a version with the correct type of opaque ceramic. If I'm correct, the factory was JF, but I wanted to consult everyone here to make sure it wasn't wasting my time if they never made it correctly or if it's out of stock entirely. Thank you!

Where I need to be.
Hello LoweTimeKeeper welcome back, the last time you were here we were battling sabretooth tigers I think. :hehehe:

You are right, the white ceramic diver from JF is a little translucent but it can be refinished to look more matte, opaque and heavy. There are a few examples of these being modded this way.
So don't fret if you really like the model, go ahead and get it and mod the case and bezel to have the correct finish!

First of all, it's good to be greeted first by a familiar member, thanks for the welcome back.

I've read about the refinishing process, but I have a question. Is this merely a temporary fix or is it the same process that the genuine watch goes through in order to obtain the matte appearance? I guess I'm just wondering if this surface finish mod equates to the temporary nature of say, a plating. Obviously I realize refinishing is not replating, but you understand my question. Otherwise I'll just opt for the black ceramic.

I do understand your question well.

The white ceramic refinish is not "forever" in most cases. It is like gold plating, you have made an excellent analogy, and it will wear after x years.
If this is a concern then yes, the black ceramic will be a more appropriate choice.

This is an interesting topic as I've always liked the white ceramic but never the translucency. Even a short-term fix is potentially interesting. Any specifics or technical details on this surface treatment?

How about a picture instead?

This was an example I did for a member some months back. It involves some fine blasting, refinishing, painting and sealing of the finish.

I have one and it's not near of being translucid, it looks very solid. The first white ceramic reps did look like plastic, but I think they improved it a lot

Here's a nice solid one. Note the crown and how the colors match between strap and case.
