Garuda You’ve got a point here. There’s been a sudden change in AP dials availability over the last 6 months or so. That has pushed prices down. Is this trend going to last? Maybe not, but it’ll be something we’re likely to see more of.

My own observations say this: AP are discarding on a large scale old model dials (and some new too). They clearly have leaky staff members that are facilitating the above trend. Funny thing is the new code 11.59 dials were already out on eBay a few days before the grand release. All of a sudden AP dials are not that cool as they are more easily available than their Daytona counterparts. That will clearly affect collectors in various ways.

What worries me is not that much the depreciation of AP dials (which indeed affects me a lot, some of the dials I’ve got have been bought at 4 times the asking price of the dials you’ve listed). My discontent is with the spiking prices of AP frankens which reflect a general lack of non-dial parts. While dials have become cheaper and more easily available, the same cannot be said for tachys, hands, movements, datewheels, rotors, pushers, crowns, bezels, crystals and the like. On the contrary, the latter have appreciated in price quite significantly if and when qvailable. There are at least a couple of AP movements on eBay that command astronomical prices without being complicated in any way.

When you add the cost of modding a ROO base midcase and the general lack of lwo movements, let alone Mikey hands/dws, one is looking at an end price of USD4k or so for a timepiece that’s only called franken because it’s got a gen dial in it (and chances are that the said dial is a factory seconds). So overall, despite the cheaper dials the AP franken hobby is actually getting more expensive and likely more time consuming. I’ve been seeing less and less interesting AP frankens in the last year (and the Noob Daytona release is not the only reason I guess).

All in all, let’s hope that people actually make good use of these newly available dials but I honestly doubt it :(

Anyway, thanks for the good observation

What he said ^.

I also do have the impression that the dials linked in OP are aftermarket by looking and comparing the fit and finish of these and an AP dial. Also the colours appear to be lighter or not precisely matched.

I mean this is not a bad thing at all just needs a bit of improving to come close in quality and fit and finish. The panda and bee dials don’t look too shabby.

come on guys, dials are obviously aftermarket. NOT genuine AP.

Domis has one Customer he bought a Dial from this seller, all Dials are Aftermarket not Gen. Be careful.

I bought a new Set Dial and Tachy for my RGRC Franken for 1.800 €, but it’s brand new.

To get new Parts it will be harder and harder. Old or used Parts with small flaws are sell for around 800-1000 USD.

The Print and Alignment is not 100% correct and looks horrible in a Franken.

Your brand new gen set of dial and tachy bought at 1.800Euros is considered a good buy. :D
The aftermarket dials look good in passing, but they are definitely NOT gen if you examine them closely.

I think it’s hard to say only with normal Pictures.
Domi said the Print looks not so good in Macro visibility and the Alignment is often not correct, you only see it when you install the Parts in the Case with Tachy.

For me better to take a trustworthy Dealer and pay a bit more.

The color of the dial and markers, the finish of the marker lume, the finishing of the dial itself, and yes the print are all not quite like the gen AP dials.
You could be correct to say they are rejected dials, I cannot rule out that possibility. My knowledge isn’t perfect but I think it’s fair to say that these are not perfect gen AP dials in pristine conditions. But whatever it is, defective gen or aftermarket, you will not want to buy them off this seller.
