One issue i have had with the JF v5 rep is that the tab that is held by the deployant clasp came off after 5 days of use (on the side next to the AP logo on the bracelet). I used some superglue to put it back and it has been holding so far. But I was disappointed to have issues so soon after purchase.

Great review first of all. Thanks for sharing. By new dial do you mean the JF V5? Have u done the review, if yes plz share link

New dial JF 15400 is now available.

Will compare it with the gen when I get it.

The new Tapp looks good. It’s more flatter than before so doesn’t look as “pimply”
New dial JF printing looks spot on.

Ok, so I have the JF 15400 V1. (I think it’s a V1 could be a V2 aswell don’t remember exactly). Image is in the link below. Is it just me or is the dial really off from the gen? The taps look roundish and pimply, don’t you say? I’ve actually stopped wearing the watch coz I think il b called out coz of the taps.... is it just in my head or is it actually the case? Also do you guys think it’s the v1 or V2?

So I have a JF 15400 V1. I swapped the v1 blue dial for a V5 blue dial. The datewheel is the same as the V1. I feel the datewheel is much darker to go with the V5 blue dial. It almost looks as if it’s black. I could be wrong since I don’t have a V5 blue dial to compare it with. Those of you who have a V5 blue dial what do you think? I’ve posted a link below, for the images . Please share your thoughts.

My blue dial V4 for reference: https://ibb.co/fYhs9fv

Could just be the lighting but I'm leaning more towards the V1 being darker than other versions.

Where I need to be.
Only issue with the V1 is the pimply taps. Colour is better definitely

Saying a color is better is subjective. If you like it, it is better for you. That’s a fact.
But if you mean the v1 color is closer to the gen blue, that’s not true. The v3-v5 color isn’t 1:1 but they’re definitely closer to variants of the gen blue than the v1.
With regard to the “pimply” dial, none of the dial tapisseries of whatever V are 1:1 either. None.
Even the black colors for gen and black vary, and the texture of the dials differ too.
It’s important to enjoy reps for what they are: fun novelties work for personal pleasure. No rep is 1:1, live with it. ;)

Agreed. But one version can be closer to the gen than the other version. So what I meant was that the tapisseries of the v1 are way of than the Gen as compared to a V5, which is closer to the gen

I agree with your general statement. True that, S.
But remember that rep is rep, and gen is gen.
Suppose you can have a Vx with more accurate tapisseries vs Vy. Does that make it gen then? No. Both are still flawed reps.
What are you going to do with the inaccurate hands, totally wrong movement, wrong case proportions etc, since your mission is to build the watch "closer to gen"?

I do understand and agree with modifications done to please the owner, more than modding it "closer to gen". No matter how you mod your watch, or what gen parts you put into it, it will never be gen. But if you are telling me that you prefer a certain look of the watch, or will happier with a certain dial variant or case finish, I totally get it. But if your only benchmark in this hobby is "closer to gen", then you need to understand that no matter how you modify a watch, there will still be aspects which are not gen, and not close to gen. Watches that are bought or built to please the owner serve more meaningful purposes than watches which are built "closer to gen", unless owner perception of its build accuracy is satisfied.
To cut the verbosity short, buy, modify or build watches which you like, and not because everyone says X version is "closer to gen". Because if the opinions of others matter, there are guys here who can dissect any "closer to gen" build and breakdown the flaws for you not to unsee them. But if you aim to please yourself, then nobody and nothing can detract from your happiness once you decide that your purchase or build is good. Have fun in the hobby, these are reps and meant to be enjoyed to the capacity of each owner.
